"The dog at the top is letting go of evil inside it, and in doing so, the magic of the moon allows good to creep in and the dog’s shadowy soul is content once more.

I combine animal symbols from cultures near and far: Native American Indian, Western European and Biblical, East Asian and more, to create detailed engravings that are at once familiar and challenging. Each presents a story that is half told, which the viewer is invited to finish. The use of narrative and allusion to traditional illustration, both in subject matter (animal characters) and in technique (engraving), furthers the connection to the written world of myth and legend, just as Aesop, George Orwell, and native tribes throughout time have used animals to tell their tales.”

My Spirit Yorkie I made for Light Grey Art Lab’s next show, Animystics! It’s a collaboration show with tons of awesome artists and a percentage proceeds from prints go towards animal shelters. I sent some signed metallic 11x14” prints to the show so if you’re in Minneapolis check it out! Regular prints are also sold online in Light Grey’s store, they’ll be in stock in a  few days.

There’s a Walk for Animals team for the May 3rd walk in Minneapolis.

Animystics: Our Spirit Animals, Totems, and Familairs

Harry Whittier Frees, an American photographer who lived from 1879 to 1953, may have created the original LOLcat images! His funny photographs show adorable animals dressed up in clothes and posed in human situations.
